In our offer, every person will find activities for themselves. We offer workshops, lectures, trainings and creative groups for people of all ages – from children, through adolescents, high school graduates and adults, to seniors.

We run both regular semester classes, general development and classification courses, cyclical events and initiatives and programs created by our teams in cooperation with external partners.

About us

Lifelong University is a unit of the University of Silesia, which offers a number of activities in the field of non-formal education and diverse forms of education for recipients outside and inside the academic community. It is a space patronized by university values, where learners from every age group – children, adolescents and adults – meet to discover the truth about the world, expand their competences, cooperate with researchers, people full of passion for learning and teaching. Our team consists of academic teachers and trainers with experience in organizing activities popularizing science and a passion for teaching.

Children’s University of Silesia

The University of Silesia Children is a unit in which the youngest students have the opportunity to satisfy their natural curiosity about the world. Students of the Children’s University of Silesia take part in workshops, seminars, laboratories and lectures, joining groups of Explorers (5-6 years), Explorers (7-9 years), Young Scientists (10-12 years) and Experts (13-15 years). Classes and workshops are conducted by scientists and scientists, people with passion, popularizing science and developing children’s creativity, also artistic (as part of the Gioia Student Choir, the Small Academy of Theatre Dance and, the LED Children’s Expression Laboratory, the I Love Cinema film group and the Children’s University of Silesia Eskadra aviation modelling group).

Teenagers’ University of Silesia

The Teenagers’ University of Silesia focuses on developing the interests and scientific passions of learners aged 13-17. We offer development classes in the field of humanities and social sciences as well as exact and natural sciences. Classes take place in the winter and summer semesters, on Saturday mornings. In addition, the Teenagers’ University of Silesia offers courses preparing for the exam finishing primary school. Eighth-graders’ courses in Polish and mathematics include 10 meetings in small groups, a trial exam is organized for those interested. 


 

University of the Third Age

The University of the Third Age offers lectures on general topics (including humanities, ecology, economics, history, geology, medicine). It also offers foreign language classes and physical activities. Computer classes for beginners and advanced students are also held every year. The activities of the University of the Third Age are not limited to regular classes and lectures – local government, various groups and clubs are active (including a traveller’s club, a historical circle, a group of word lovers, a singing group), listeners also take part in and organize various cultural events, e.g., a New Year’s concert, joint carolling, sports bridge tournaments and meetings of long-time listeners.


 

University City Science Centre

Every September, the University of Silesia opens its campus in Katowice for students and teachers of primary and secondary schools as part of the University Science Town. This is an event to which organized groups are invited. Several scientific stops appear on the campus map, each year offering other interactive lectures in a selected field. These are: “Peculiarities of the World of Physics”, “Biorobotics”, devoted mainly to the biology of “Encounters with Science” and “The Amazing History of Humanity”. Each stop offers three sessions a day, during which students can participate in several lectures conducted by scientists from the University of Silesia and employees of other scientific and research institutions from Silesia


 

Open Courses

Open Courses are afternoon classes aimed at adults, active and working people who want to acquire, supplement or expand their knowledge. The diverse offer includes academic courses, activities developing passions, practical education and acquiring new competences – after school, after studies or after work. Classes are held cyclically, three times a year, which allows for a large variety of thematic classes available in a given cycle, as well as quick implementation of the course.


 

Academy of Diplomacy

The Academy of Diplomacy classes are addressed to all people who associate their careers with work in international organizations and institutions operating in Poland and abroad. The program of the Academy of Diplomacy includes, among others: a diplomatic protocol with elements of etiquette, specialization lectures on selected problems of the modern world, workshops in the art of communication and soft skills, and language classes (English and French). In addition, graduates of the Academy of Diplomacy, interested in expanding their knowledge and competences, can take advantage of the two-semester Post-Academia Diplomacy course. In turn, the Academy of Diplomacy was established for students of secondary schools – a training program in the field of etiquette, savoir-vivre principles and social competences, which are currently highly valued by employers. 

Students may participate in a study visit to the Embassy of the French Republic in Poland, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The lecturers and lecturers of the Academy of Diplomacy are academic teachers of the University of Silesia, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Centre for Latin American Studies of the University of Warsaw, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, the Honorary Consulate of the French Republic in Katowice and deputies’ offices.


 

MBA Programme

Executive Master of Business Administration is a programme run in cooperation with the Gdańsk Foundation for Management Education, addressed to top management positions. The aim of the studies is to provide students with the latest knowledge in the field of management, which is the basis for practical skills: analysing and solving the company’s problems, creating development strategies, making decisions, negotiating, communication and cooperation in a variety of economic, social and cultural conditions. In addition, during the studies, there is an exchange of knowledge between participants with business experience, which allows for effective networking. 

MBA programmes are validated by recognized business schools – Porto Business School, Aix-Marseille Graduate School of Management and Rotterdam School of Management.


 

Post-graduate Studies

Post-graduate studies are a good choice for people who want to deepen their specialist knowledge, acquire new competences and professional qualifications. Post-graduate studies are a guarantee of developing professional potential that will increase its attractiveness on the labour market. Classes at post-graduate studies are conducted by lecturers and lecturers of the University of Silesia in Katowice, specialists and specialists in their fields and people familiar with the issues raised in professional practice.


 

Centre for Teaching and Learning

The Centre for Teaching and Learning is a unit of the Lifelong University of the University of Silesia, supporting academic teachers in the development and enrichment of teaching perspectives. The Centre understands teaching as a critical practice, driven by inquiry, experimentation, reflection, and dialogue. We promote pedagogy that is inclusive, learner-centred, and research-based. The Centre is an organizational unit created for the broad purpose of advancing a high culture of education and creating solutions in the field of education management at the university level.

At the Centre for Teaching and Learning, we promote inclusive pedagogy focused on students. We offer training, workshops, symposia, pedagogical brunches, as well as academic mentoring and tutoring. We advocate for good practices in education, creating a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences, guided by the educational mission of the university and the philosophy of teaching seen as a relationship.

We provide solutions in the area of education management to ensure high standards while considering the pedagogical career path of academic teachers and the criteria for the periodic assessment of their teaching activities. We design pedagogical development paths for academic teachers with diverse experience in academic teaching. We coordinate courses led by UŚ tutors, including the implementation of tutorship projects at the university. We offer mentoring support to all academic teachers in matters related to pedagogy.

We offer a rich array of tailor-made training sessions, immersive workshops, and dynamic pedagogical mentoring and tutoring. Our aim is to not only nurture our educators but also to equip them with the tools to revolutionize their teaching methods and foster a deep connection with their students. The Centre for Teaching and Learning stands as a vibrant cornerstone within the Lifelong University of the University of Silesia. It is a dedicated educational environment where our academic staff find not only professional growth but also the nourishment of their pedagogical perspectives. We create an interactive hub, where thoughts and experiences are exchanged freely. This platform, a testament to our university’s educational mission and the transformative power of learning, facilitates a thriving community of educators committed to holistic, student-centric learning.


 

Teacher Training Course

Teacher Training Course is a proposal addressed to students of the University of Silesia who cannot pursue a teaching specialty as part of their home field and are interested in obtaining a license to practice this profession. The Teacher Training Course implemented in accordance with the applicable standards of teacher education and takes place in several variants, adapted to the level of studies and competences. 


 

University of Silesia for Teachers

Our team consists of researchers, instructors, and trainers. These are individuals full of passion, and they infect others with their inexhaustible energy and eagerness to act. We have experience in executing both large-scale training projects and intimate closed-format sessions. We ensure high quality in the education process and a practical approach to the discussed topics, guaranteeing the effectiveness of our training. The training programs at the Silesian University for Teachers aim to provide content and methodological support, professional development, personal growth for educators, and assistance in addressing educational challenges. Workshops are organized in small or large settings, trainings for educational boards, as well as large conferences are organized.


 

Education Congress Katowice

The Education Congress is an initiative of the University of Silesia and the City of Katowice, organized since 2013 by the team of the Open University of Silesia.  The Education Congress is an event to which we invite headmasters, teachers of schools and kindergartens, educators, parents, pupils and all those who want to implement new educational solutions. The Education Congress is an opportunity to enrich knowledge about modern methods of education and innovation in education, and a platform for meetings, conversations and discussions, integrating pedagogical environments.
